Monday at Mount Vernon

Today we took a trip to Mount Vernon (while it was still nice outside). We skipped the house tour (which had a long wait) and walked around the grounds. We also took a boat tour. Aside from Matthew trying to break into Washington's tomb, it was a quiet trip. It also must have been at least a little fun because Allison and Matthew passed out on the way home. Shortly, we plan to cool off in the pool. It is about 90 out right now! Pictures will follow...

What I want to be when I grow up.....by Allison

On the way home from swim lessons, Allison made the following proclamation:

"Mom, when I grow up I want to be a pool teacher. I just know I'll love it."

Deep thoughts...by Allison

Last night, Allison came up to me and said the following:

"Mom. I have to tell you something badly. Tomorrow, after my soccer game, God is going to flood the earth."

It's not raining yet, but she wasn't too clear on how long after the game this would come to pass....

Happy Mother's Day!!!

I got to sleep in for Mother's Day!!! It was nice.

Allison made a nice flower pot for me (with a picture of herself on the flower and the caption, "
My love for you grows and grows and grows!"). She also got up today and said, "Mom, Happy Mother's Day, I love you....but I can't get the hairband out of Julia's doll."

Not to be outdone, Julia made a "Hand Prints" poster for me with the following excerpt written on the back:

Dear Mom,
Happy Mother's Day mom. I didn't get nothing for Mother's Day, so I wanted to do something for Mother's Day. So, I love you mom. Happy Mother's Day. I love you.
Love,
Julia

Amanda gave me some bath stuff and told me to "just go and relax". She also asked me for some more toys.

Matthew had a diaper that somehow had glitter in it. I guess that was extra special :)

Happy Mother's Day to all those moms out there :)

Amanda's First Communion

Amanda celebrated her First Holy Communion today :)

(Note: We'd have had more pictures, but flash photography was punishable by death during the cermony.)

Perhaps we should hide our scissors???

Today, we had ANOTHER haircutting incident....

Yes, it was only a week ago that we had the infamous "Handsoming of Matthew". Now, we have Julia's "trim".

So, Julia gets up today...and I notice her hair is a little funky looking (not unusual for any of them in the morning). We eat breakfast, get dressed, and I go to brush her hair...and there is quite a bit of it missing on one side. I said, "What did you do to your hair?" And, of course, she responds with, "I don't know." She even looked genuinely confused. I asked her why she cut her hair, and she said she just "wanted a trim". On one side????

Needless to say, we will be letting it grow out. There is really no fixing it short of giving her a pixie cut. We'll have to wait and see.

My new look

Mom made me go to the haircut store. I fought and fought and made sure they knew I was not happy about the whole professional haircut idea. They didn't even have Kipper to watch! They all said I was "super cute" at the end. Like I care!

Mom said that next time Allison cuts my hair that I get to cut hers..

I guess it wasn't all bad. I was pretty happy when I got home again. After all, that's where I know I can always watch Kipper...

My sister gave me a haircut!

So, I was sitting there minding my own business. My sister Allison was cutting some paper to make something for mom. Mom's not very smart, though, because that's just what she says to trick her so she gets to play with the scissors. So, all of a sudden she's sitting next to me and I hear her saying how she's got to "make me handsome" and how this long hair "just won't do". So, she turns on Kipper (which I really like to watch) and I hear little snip-snip noises. And, she pulls on my hair a little, but not too much. Snip-snip, snip-snip, snip-snip...But, wow, I don't notice because Kipper is REALLY good today...

All of a sudden, I hear mom yell, "Allison! What are you doing to your brother!" So, I look at mom and smile. I hear Allison tell mom, "But, I was just trying to make him handsome!"

Mom sent Allison to her room. Then, she started laughing and cleaning up hair. She said I have to go get a haircut now. I really hope they have Kipper there...

Deep thoughts...by Allison

I had an interesting conversation with Allison this morning. It went something like this:

Mom: "Ok, princess, let's get dressed and ready for school. What do you think you'll do at school today?"
Allison: "I don't know, I'm too tired right now to think....Mrs. Boggs said she liked my hair. She said 'Wow, that's cute.' I like her. And, Mrs. Taylor. But, (Mrs.) Taylor was gone yesterday so it was (Mrs.) Pearl instead. I like her too."
Mom: "Yes, they are all nice ladies, aren't they?"
Allison: "MOM, they aren't ladies. Theyr'e TEACHERS!"
Mom: "Well, can't teachers be ladies too?"
Allison: "NO! They just can't be."
Mom: "Ok, let's go girl, it's time to eat."
Allison: "Mom! I'm not a girl, I'm a princess. You said!"
Mom: "Ooookay...."
Allison: "I have an owie (lifting shirt) and here's the bandaid. Blood is red, even on princesses. But, it will get better and then there will be no more blood."
Mom: "Okay, let's go eat. What do you want?"
Allison: "Chocolate cake."

Sentences by Amanda

For an assignment, Amanda had to make up sentences using her vocabulary words. Below are a few of her sentences:

I was unaware of the tree falling on our house.

I was unfortunate about not getting a hamster.

I am a little unskilled in math.

Another assignment involved explaining why swimsuits are good:
"If you swim in the ocean you don't need to be naked, or make boys and girls faint by seeing you naked. So, wear a swimsuit."

New pictures for Allison

Not to be outdone by her little brother, Allison decided to get a few new pictures taken today. Matthew tried his best to streak in front of the camera cheerfully screaming, "Cheese!" Funny how when he was getting his picture taken he couldn't get away from the camera fast enough...

Julia the firebug

Julia tried to burn the bathroom down Saturday. It was an “accident". She “accidentally” got toilet paper into a candle. The candle was nowhere near the toilet/ the toilet paper roll, and in fact one would have to climb on top of the sink to "accidentally" reach the candle. Surprisingly, the toilet paper started on fire when it made contact with the candle, and Julia (apparently unsure of what to do) decided to drop the burning toilet paper into the garbage can (not the toilet filled with fire-killing water 3 inches away). She opened the door and exclaimed, "Mom, there's a fire!" Mom doused it with water and put it outside. The trash can, sadly, did not make it. But, the bathroom is intact. Julia has promised there will be no more "accidents."
